Shloka 1
Sanskrit:
अर्जुन उवाच |
अयतिः श्रद्धयोपेतो योगाच्चलितमानसः |
अप्राप्य योगसंसिद्धिं कां गतिं कृष्ण गच्छति ॥ ६.३७ ॥
Transliteration:
Arjuna uvācha:
Ayatiḥ śhraddhayopeto yogāch chalita-mānasaḥ,
Aprāpya yoga-saṁsiddhiṁ kāṁ gatiṁ kṛiṣhṇa gachchhati.
Meaning:
Arjuna said: O Krishna, what is the destination of a person who has faith, but whose mind wanders away from yoga and fails to attain perfection in it?
Explanation:
Arjuna asks a very practical and compassionate question on behalf of all seekers: What happens to someone who starts the path with faith and sincerity but cannot reach the final goal due to an unsteady mind?
Shloka 2
Sanskrit:
कच्चिन्नोभयविभ्रष्टश्छिन्नाभ्रमिव नश्यति |
अप्रतिष्ठो महाबाहो विमूढो ब्रह्मणः पथि ॥ ६.३८ ॥
Transliteration:
Kachchin nobhaya-vibhraṣhṭaś chhinnābhram iva naśhyati,
Apratiṣhṭho mahā-bāho vimūḍho brahmaṇaḥ pathi.
Meaning:
O mighty-armed one, does he not fall from both worlds, like a cloud torn apart, without any support, deluded on the path of Brahman?
Explanation:
Arjuna fears that such a person might lose both material success and spiritual attainment — ending up like a scattered cloud with no position in either world. A very human fear!
Shloka 3
Sanskrit:
एतन्मे संशयं कृष्ण छेत्तुमर्हस्यशेषतः |
त्वदन्यः संशयस्यास्य छेत्ता न ह्युपपद्यते ॥ ६.३९ ॥
Transliteration:
Etan me saṁśhayaṁ kṛiṣhṇa chhettum arhasy aśheṣhataḥ,
Tvad-anyaḥ saṁśhayasyāsya chhettā na hy upapadyate.
Meaning:
O Krishna, please completely dispel this doubt of mine. No one other than You can destroy this doubt.
Explanation:
Arjuna humbly requests Krishna to clear his doubt entirely. This shows deep trust in Krishna as the ultimate guide. A beautiful example of surrender and faith!
Today’s TakeawayEven if you fall short, you are not lost!
Arjuna’s honest question reflects the fear many of us have — “What if I try but cannot reach perfection?” Krishna’s upcoming answer (in the next days) is full of hope and assurance. Keep walking the path with sincerity. No sincere effort ever goes to waste. Progress may be slow, but you are always moving forward in Krishna’s eyes!
