Shloka 1
Sanskrit:
यथा दीपो निवातस्थो नेङ्गते सोपमा स्मृता |
योगिनो यतचित्तस्य युञ्जतो योगमात्मनः ॥ ६.१९ ॥
Transliteration:
Yathā dīpo nivāta-stho neṅgate sopamā smṛitā,
Yogino yata-chittasya yuñjato yogam ātmanaḥ.
Meaning:
As a lamp in a windless place does not flicker, so is the simile for the yogi whose mind is controlled and who practices meditation on the Self.
Explanation:
Beautiful imagery! Just as a flame stays steady and bright when there is no wind, the mind of a sincere yogi becomes perfectly still and unwavering during meditation. This is the classic sign of deep concentration. Calm, bright, and undisturbed!

Shloka 2
Sanskrit:
यत्रोपरमते चित्तं निरुद्धं योगसेवया |
यत्र चैवात्मनात्मानं पश्यन्नात्मनि तुष्यति ॥ ६.२० ॥
Transliteration:
Yatroparamate chittaṁ niruddhaṁ yoga-sevayā,
Yatra chaivātmanātmānaṁ paśhyann ātmani tuṣhyati.
Meaning:
When the mind, restrained by the practice of yoga, becomes still and ceases from all activities, and when the yogi sees the Self by the Self and feels satisfied in the Self alone.
Explanation:
In deep meditation, the mind stops running after external things. Through regular practice, it becomes quiet. Then the yogi experiences the blissful vision of the inner Self — and finds complete contentment within. No external pleasure needed!

Shloka 3
Sanskrit:
सुखमात्यन्तिकं यत्तद् बुद्धिग्राह्यमतीन्द्रियम् |
वेत्ति यत्र न चैवायं स्थितश्चलति तत्त्वतः ॥ ६.२१ ॥
Transliteration:
Sukham ātyantikaṁ yat tad buddhi-grāhyam atīndriyam,
Vetti yatra na chaivāyaṁ sthitaś chalati tattvataḥ.
Meaning:
In that state, the yogi experiences supreme, unending happiness that is beyond the senses and grasped only by purified intellect. Established in that truth, he never deviates from it.
Explanation:
This is the reward of steady meditation — infinite, transcendental bliss that the senses cannot perceive but the pure intellect can experience. Once attained, the yogi remains firmly rooted in this divine joy and never falls back. Eternal satisfaction unlocked!

Today’s TakeawayMake your mind like a steady flame in a windless place!
Through regular, balanced practice, train your mind to become still.
